Addressing sexual violence in the education sector
May 2003
Gender violence - physical, sexual, and psychological - is a major cause of ill health and death among women worldwide. It is a particular problem for young people.
This report focuses on sexual violence in educational institutions all over the world and examines some of the solutions, from international and national legislation to measures within schools and universities.
It argues that by addressing this issue, students' health and rights are protected, the risks of unplanned pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections are reduced, educational opportunities are enhanced and institutional performance is improved.
